Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
2. Remove the front fixed axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fixed Axle (Front) - Remove and Install".
3. Remove the rear axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oscillating Axle (Rear) - Remove and Install".

Note: Make sure that the intermediate housing of the differential is positioned on the top when you locate the axle assembly in Tooling (A) .

1. Remove the service brake from the intermediate housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Service Brakes - Remove and Install".

2. Fasten a suitable lifting device to intermediate housing (1). Remove bolts (2) and intermediate housing assembly (1). The weight of intermediate housing (1) is approximately 109 kg (240 lb).

3. Remove bolt (3) and bolt lock (4) .

   Note: Adjusting nuts of two different sizes are used in the bevel gear group. Use Tooling (F) or Tooling (G) to remove the adjusting nuts.

4. Use Tooling (F) or Tooling (G) to remove the adjusting nut (5) .

5. Remove locating pin (7), sleeve assembly (6), and bearing cup (8) from intermediate housing (1) .

6. Remove two bolts (9) that are directly opposite each other. Install Tooling (J) in the bolt holes.

7. Remove remaining bolts (9). Slide pinion gear assembly (10) away from the differential housing in order to install Tooling (B). Attach a suitable lifting device to pinion gear assembly (10) .

8. Use the suitable lifting device to remove pinion gear assembly (10). The weight of pinion gear assembly (10) is approximately 66 kg (145 lb).

9. Remove the shims and the O-ring seal from the pinion assembly.

10. Install Tooling (C) on differential assembly (11). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (C) .

11. Use a suitable lifting device to remove differential assembly (11). The weight of differential assembly (11) is 109 kg (240 lb).

12. Use Tooling (D) to remove bearing cone (12) .

13. Turn the differential onto the opposite side. Use Tooling (E) to remove bearing cone (13) .

14. Remove bolts (15) that hold bevel gear (16) in position. Use a press to remove bevel gear (16) from the differential.

15. Remove two spring pins (14) from the bevel gear.

16. Remove bolt lock (18) and bolt (17) .

17. Remove adjusting nut (19) from the differential housing.

18. Remove locating pin (20) and remove sleeve assembly (21). Remove bearing cup (22) .
