Transmission oil cooler (1) is part of the engine radiator. The transmission oil cooler is located below the engine radiator.
The bottom of the transmission case provides the oil sump. The transmission oil pump supplies oil to the power train hydraulic system. The transmission oil pump supplies the oil to the externally mounted transmission oil filter. The oil then flows to the transmission control valve in the transmission case and the modulating valve (torque converter lockup clutch solenoid). The modulating valve (torque converter lockup clutch solenoid) supplies the oil to the lockup clutch for torque converter (3). The transmission control valve supplies the torque converter with the remainder of the oil.
The oil exits the torque converter housing through external line (2). The oil flows through external line (2) into the inlet of transmission oil cooler (1). The oil circulates through the transmission oil cooler. The oil exits the transmission oil cooler through outlet line (5). The oil flows through outlet line (5) to transmission (4) .
The oil flows into transmission (4) to each transmission shaft. This lubricates the bearings, the gears and the clutches. This also cools the bearings, the gears, and the clutches. The oil then flows back to the oil sump in the bottom of the transmission case.
