Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
The command for the hoist control valve is adjustable. The adjustment range is -5 to +5 with zero as a default. A positive adjustment will increase the command to the hoist control valve. A positive adjustment causes the body to lower faster. A negative adjustment will decrease the command to the hoist control valve. A negative adjustment causes the body to lower slower.

(1) Pressure tap |
- Install an 8T-0855 Pressure Gauge to pressure tap (1) .
- Install the Electronic Technician (ET) to the communications port that is located in the cab.
- Use the drop-down menu in ET in order to obtain the screen for Transmission ECM Configuration.
- With the body in the down position, place the hoist lever in the HOLD position.
- Use the ET in order to change the setting for the hoist control valve. Select the "Hoist Lower Valve Adjustment Status". Adjust this value between -5 and +5. The default value is zero. Change the setting of the hoist control valve one increment at a time.
- Raise the body to the fully raised position.
- Place the hoist lever in the FLOAT position. Check the body down snub function as the body lowers to the frame.
- If further adjustment is required repeat Step 3 through Step 7.
- Run the engine at high idle with the hoist control in the FLOAT position.
Note: If the pressure is greater than 1725 kPa (250 psi), the adjustment for the command to the hoist control valve is too high. A setting to the control that is too high causes excessive oil to be diverted to the hoist control valve. Diverting too much oil will cause overheating of the brake oil when the hoist control valve is in the FLOAT position. Repeat Step 3 through Step 7 and lower the adjustment for the hoist control valve.
