This calibration procedure will automatically calibrate the initial and the maximum current for the left and the right pump forward solenoids. This calibration will also calibrate the currents for the left and the right motor solenoids. During the calibration procedure, the machine will move.
The tracks will move during the procedure. Keep all personnel away from the machine during the procedure. Severe injury or death could result if someone was caught in the moving tracks. |
Note: In order to place the machine on stands, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Service Brake Pedal - Test".

Use Caterpillar® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) to calibrate the following solenoids:
- Left pump forward solenoid
- Right pump forward solenoid
- Left motor solenoid
- Right motor solenoid
Calibration is required in the following situations:
- A pump or a motor is replaced or a pump or a motor is serviced.
- The machine ECM is replaced or the ECM is removed for service.
Use Cat ET to calibrate the solenoids. Select Service from the main menu. Then, select "CALIBRATION" from the drop-down menu. Select the "Forward Pump and Motor Solenoid Calibration" from the selection menu. Follow the instructions that are provided.
The ECM must detect the following conditions before starting the calibration procedure:
- The joystick must be in the neutral position.
- The engine must be running and the engine is set to high idle.
- There are No Active Diagnostics.
- The parking brake switch must be released.
If any of these conditions are not met during the calibration, the procedure is aborted immediately.
Note: The hydraulic oil temperature must be between 40 °C (104 °F) to 55 °C (131 °F).
The following solenoid parameters can be viewed using Cat ET:
- Left Drive Pump Forward Control Solenoid Start Current Command
- Right Drive Pump Forward Control Solenoid Start Current Command
- Left Drive Motor Solenoid Start Current Command
- Right Drive Motor Solenoid Start Current Command
- Left Drive Pump Forward Control Solenoid Maximum Current
- Right Drive Pump Forward Control Solenoid Maximum Current
- Left Motor Solenoid Maximum Current
- Right Motor Solenoid Maximum Current
Note: If Error Code : 0103 - "Calibration Out of Range" occurs during calibration, check the PWM signal to ensure that communication is working correctly. If no problem is found with the PWM signal, use Cat ET to view the current values of the given solenoid. The currents of the left and right drive motors or drive pumps should be similar. All of the pump solenoid start currents should be similar and all the pump solenoids maximum currents should be similar. If one current value is obviously different than their counterpart, then troubleshoot that circuit.
