NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Park the machine on a level surface. Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.

  1. Remove cover assembly (1) .

  1. Remove seal (2) .

  1. Remove screen tube assembly (3) and suction screen (5) .

    NOTICE

    Do not drop or rap the magnets against any hard objects. Replace any damaged magnets.


  1. Wash the screen tube assembly and the suction screen in clean, nonflammable solvent.

  1. Clean magnets (4) with a cloth, stiff bristle brush, or pressure air.

  1. Clean the cover. Inspect seal (2). Replace the seal if it is damaged.

  1. Install screen tube assembly (3) and suction screen (5) .

  1. Install seal (2) and cover assembly (1) .

  1. Start the engine and run the engine at low idle. Inspect for leaks.

  1. Maintain the transmission oil level to the "FULL" mark in sight gauge (6). Remove oil filler cap (7) and add oil, if necessary.

  1. Stop the engine.
