Flywheel Housing - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the crankshaft rear seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal - Remove".

  2. Remove the electric starting motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Disconnect tube assemblies (1) and (6).

  2. Remove brackets (2), (3), and (4) from flywheel housing (7).

  3. Attach a suitable lifting device to the transmission oil cooler. Remove bracket (5).

  4. Remove bolts (8) and install Tooling (B).

  5. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to flywheel housing (7). The weight of flywheel housing (7) is approximately 98 kg (216 lb).

  6. Remove remaining bolts (8). Remove flywheel housing (7) and the gasket from the rear flywheel housing.

  1. Install Tooling (B) in the cylinder block.

  2. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to flywheel housing (7). The weight of flywheel housing (7) is approximately 98 kg (216 lb).

  3. Position the gasket and flywheel housing (7) on the rear flywheel housing. Install bolts (8).

  4. Remove Tooling (B) and install remaining bolts (8).

  5. Tighten the bolts, as follows:

    1. In a numerical sequence, tighten Bolt 1 through Bolt 2 to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).

    2. In a numerical sequence, tighten Bolt 3 through Bolt 10 to a torque of 135 ± 20 N·m (100 ± 15 lb ft).

    3. In a numerical sequence, tighten Bolt 11 through Bolt 36 to a torque of 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft).

  6. Connect tube assemblies (1) and (6).

  7. Install brackets (2), (3), (4), and (5).

End By:

  1. Install the electric starting motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install".

  2. Install the crankshaft rear seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal - Install".
