3208 NA Truck Engines With 138 kW (185 hp) Rating
Reference: In the Service Magazine, March 5, 1984, the article "Causes Of White Exhaust Smoke During Cold Weather Starts And Ways To Reduce It" gives suggestions for reducing white smoke during cold weather starts.
Another method not mentioned in the article is to use straight (unblended) No. 1 diesel fuel without cetane improvers or other additives.
If the suggestions and corrections in the Reference Article, or No. 1 diesel fuel does not reduce this white smoke to an acceptable level, pistons with 18.2:1 compression ratio can be installed in 138kW (185 hp) 3208 NA Truck Engines.
The new pistons with 18.2:1 compression ratio are direct replacements for the pistons with 16.5:1 compression ration shown in the chart.
