Schematic for the Position Sensor (Left Brake Pedal) |
This diagnostic code is associated with the Position Sensor (Left Brake Pedal). The FMI 13 means that the ECM has determined that the signal of the sensor is not within expected limits.
The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
- The position sensor is out of calibration.
- The position sensor is out of adjustment.
- The ECM has been flashed with new software.
- The sensor has failed.
- The ECM has failed.
Note: Ensure that you have repaired any condition that would cause other active diagnostic codes that are related to this sensor. For example, the CID 1327 FMI 03 or FMI 04 are not active when the CID 1327 FMI 13 is active. If the other diagnostic codes are active, troubleshoot those codes first. Then perform this procedure.
Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 1327 FMI 13 is active before performing this procedure.
System Response:
The machine response is listed:
- Neutralization with the left brake pedal will not function.
Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code is active and that the diagnostic code indicator is active.
Test Step 1. CHECK CALIBRATION.
- Perform the necessary adjustment and calibration procedures. Calibrate the rotary position sensor. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, RENR6066, "Position Sensor (Left Brake Pedal) - Calibrate".
- Observe the status of the CID 1327 FMI 13.
Expected Result:
The CID 1327 FMI 13 is not active.
Results:
- OK - The CID 1327 FMI 13 is not active. The calibration corrected the condition that caused the CID 1327 FMI 13. Resume normal operation.STOP
- NOT OK - The CID 1327 FMI 13 is still active.
Repair: The diagnostic code is still active. Verify that the correct software has been flashed into the ECM, or that the correct ECM is installed on the machine. Then repeat the calibration. If the diagnostic code is still active check for proper operation and proper adjustment of the mechanical linkage for the pedal assembly. If the diagnostic code is still active and no problem can be found, you may need to replace the ECM. Prior to replacing an ECM, always contact the Technical Communicator (TC) at your dealership for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time and expense.
