D3G, D4G and D5G Track-Type Tractors Electrohydraulic Caterpillar

Charge Relief Valve - Adjust

Usage:

D3G BYR

------ WARNING! ------

Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the power train.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. If the engine is still running, stop the engine.

  1. Exit the machine.

  1. If the machine is equipped with a winch, the bracket for the pump drive support must be removed in order to remove the charge relief valve. Perform the following procedure to remove the bracket.

    1. Block up the piston pump for the winch in order to support all three pumps.

    1. Remove six bolts (2) from pump (1) .

    1. Support bracket (3) and remove four bolts (4) from hydrostatic drive (5) .

    1. Remove bracket (3) .

  1. Remove charge relief valve (6) .

Note: The charge relief valve is not a cartridge type valve. The charge relief valve is composed of individual parts. Ensure that none of the parts are lost when the relief valve is removed.

    (8) Charge Relief Valve for Rear Pump

  1. Determine the amount of shims (7) that is required to increase the charge oil pressure or determine the amount of shims that is required to decrease the charge oil pressure. Remove shims and/or add shims.

    • One 0.3 mm (0.012 inch) shim equals approximately 120 kPa (17 psi).

    • One 0.5 mm (0.02 inch) shim equals approximately 200 kPa (29 psi).

    • One 1 mm (0.04 inch) shim equals approximately 400 kPa (58 psi).

  1. Install charge relief valve (6). Tighten the relief valve to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).

  1. Perform the test for the charge relief valve. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Initial Pressure Test".

  1. Repeat Step 4 through Step 7 until the charge relief valve is set to the correct specification.

  1. If the machine is equipped with a winch, install the bracket for the pump drive support.
