Smaller Dowel, Stronger Cover Used On Oil Pump Drive Shaft{3310}

Usage:

7231, 7241 Marine Transmissions

Description of Change: A smaller dowel and a stronger cover are used in the oil pump drive shaft on 7231 and 7241 Marine Transmissions. Reports show that some of the former covers could crack.

Adaptable As: The new 4F2609 Dowels are a direct replacement for the former 4F2099 Pins when used with the new 1N9274 Cover. The part number of the cover did not change. Use of the new dowels and cover are in effect on 7231 Marine Transmissions (17W777) and 7241 Marine Transmissions (39E522).

To install the new cover on an existing shaft assembly, use the procedure that follows:

1. Install the new cover on the shaft. Make sure the holes in the cover are turned 90° from the holes that are in the shaft. Use the cover as a template to drill two 5.8 mm (.228") holes. Drill these holes to a depth of 13.97 mm (.550").

2. With the cover still in position against the shaft, use a reamer to increase the diameter of the holes in the cover and shaft to 6.165 ± 0.013 mm (.2427 ± .0005"). Ream these holes to a minimum depth of 12.7 mm (.50").

3. Install a 4F2609 Dowel in each hole to hold the cover in position.
