The Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) is a software program that can be used on an IBM-compatible personal computer.
Reference: To use the Caterpillar ET, order Special Publication, JERD2124, "ET Single Use Program License", Special Publication, JEHP1026, "Information and Requirements Sheet", and Special Publication, JERD2129, "Data Subscription". The Special Publication, JEHP1026, "Information and Requirements Sheet" lists the required hardware and the features of CAT ET.
The Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) is not needed for determining diagnostic codes or for clearing diagnostic codes, but using the ET is a faster, easier method. The ET can also display information about past history of diagnostic codes and information about the parameter status. Because of these features, the ET is a useful service tool for troubleshooting.
The Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) connects to the diagnostic service tool connector. The diagnostic service tool connector is a nine pin connector. The diagnostic service tool connector is located on the left side of the front dash below the steering column. The Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) communicates with the Electronic Control Module (ECM) via the Caterpillar Data Link.
Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the machine and start the ET. The ET will initiate communication with the Electronic Control Modules on the machine. After communication has been established, the ET will list the Electronic Control Modules that are on the machine. Choose the menu item "Transmission 535B". After the diagnostic codes have been determined with the ET, see the test procedure for the corresponding diagnostic code.
