General Information
C9 发动机是一个直列六缸发动机。 发动机点火顺序为 "1-5-3-6-2-4"。 从发动机飞轮端观察发动机时，发动机为逆时针旋转。 发动机采用一个涡轮增压器。 发动机的缸径为 112 mm (4.41 in) ，冲程为 149 mm (5.87 in) 。 排量为 8.8 L (537 cu in) 。
C9 发动机采用液压电子式单体喷油器 (HEUI) 进行燃油喷射。 HEUI 取消了用于泵和管路系统的很多机械部件。 HEUI 加强了对正时和空燃混合的控制。 通过精确控制单体喷油器正时，实现正时提前。 发动机转速是由调整喷油持续时间来控制的。 有一个特殊的脉冲轮向电子控制模块 (ECM) 提供信息，以便检测气缸位置和发动机转速。
发动机带有内置诊断功能，以确保所有部件正常工作。Caterpillar 电子技师 (ET) 可用于读取故障部件或状况的数字代码。 间歇性故障会记录和储存在存储器内。
发动机 ECM 将自动提供起动发动机所需的正确燃油量。 盘车起动发动机时不要踩下油门。 如果发动机无法在 20 秒内起动，释放起动开关。 再次使用起动马达前，先使其冷却 2 分钟。
