Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Loosen oil drain valve (1) or remove the oil drain plug and the O-ring seal. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
- Remove bolts (2) from engine oil pan (3).
- Remove engine oil pan (3) and the gasket from the cylinder block.

- Clean all surfaces thoroughly. Inspect the condition of the gasket. Replace the gasket, if necessary.

Illustration 2 g00902366 - Install the gasket and engine oil pan (3) in the correct position on the cylinder block.
- Install bolts (2) in order to fasten engine oil pan (3) to the cylinder block. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of
22 N·m (16 lb ft) . - Tighten oil drain valve (1) or install the O-ring seal and the drain plug. Tighten the drain plug to a torque of
34 N·m (25 lb ft) . - Fill the engine oil pan to the correct level that is indicated on the engine oil level gauge.
