Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect" for the machine that is being serviced.

Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine. To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key. If the machine is not equipped with a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the battery cables from the battery and tape the battery clamps. Place a do not operate tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on.

Note: Put identification marks on all wires for installation purposes.

1. Open right engine access door (1) .

2. Use a suitable breaker bar to release belt tensioner (2). Remove belt (4) from alternator (3) .

3. Disconnect cable (6) from the alternator. Disconnect harness (7). Remove the harness clip. Disconnect ground cable (8) from the alternator.

4. Remove bolt (5) and the washer.

5. Remove bolt (9), the washers, and the nut. Remove alternator (3). The weight of the alternator (3) is 14 kg (30 lb).

1. Install alternator (3) and bolt (9). The weight of the alternator (3) is 14 kg (30 lb).

2. Install bolt (5) and the washer.

3. Connect ground cable (8) to the alternator. The torque for the ground terminal nut is 6.2 ± 0.6 N·m (55 ± 5 lb in).

4. Connect cable (6) and harness (7). The torque for the output terminal nut is 7.1 ± 0.8 N·m (63 ± 7 lb in). Install the harness clip.

5. Install belt (4) to alternator (3). Use a suitable breaker bar to engage belt tensioner (2) .

6. Close right engine access door (1) .

End By: Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
