Electric Starting Motor - Remove

Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect" for the machine that is being serviced.

------ WARNING! ------

Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine.

To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key. If the machine is not equipped with a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the battery cables from the battery and tape the battery clamps.

Place a do not operate tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on.

  1. Remove five bolts (1) and panel (2) from right side of machine.

  1. Disconnect wires (3) from electric starting motor (4) .

  1. Cut tie straps, as needed.

    Note: Put identification marks on wire assemblies for assembly purposes.

  1. Disconnect cables (5) .

  1. Attach Tooling (A) to electric starting motor (4) .

  1. Attach a suitable hoist and lifting slings to Tooling (A) and the electric starting motor, as shown.

  1. Remove three bolts (6) .

  1. Use the hoist in order to remove electric starting motor (4). The weight of electric starting motor (4) is 36 kg (80 lb).

  1. Remove gasket (7) .
