Truck Engine News SEBD6856, 19 December 2011, "An Improved Exhaust Sleeve Assembly is Now Used". This publication has been revised to update the part number of the sleeves used. Disregard the previous article, refer to the information below.

Description of Change: An improved exhaust sleeve assembly which incorporates a metallic fire ring is now used in the exhaust manifold of the above listed On-Highway Engines. This design provides improved sealing of the exhaust gases and extends the reliability and serviceability of the engine.

Adaptable To: The 262-9103 Sleeve has been canceled and replaced with an improved 281-8261 Exhaust Sleeve As. The improved exhaust manifold sleeve is a direct replacement. The sleeve is adaptable to first production of the engines that are listed above. Replace the standard locking nuts for the mounting studs of the exhaust manifold with Spiralock 2N-2766 Locknuts when the new sleeves are installed.

Do not mix the former sleeve assemblies with the new sleeves. If the exhaust manifold is serviced or repaired, six new 281-8261 Exhaust Sleeve As must be installed. When the new sleeve assemblies are installed, do not reinstall the washers on the exhaust manifold studs. Discard the washers due to the increased thickness of the new sleeve assemblies and only use the Spiralock locknuts. Refer to the appropriate engine Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Manifold - Remove and Install" for additional disassembly and assembly information.
