NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

The suction screen is located at the right rear of the torque converter.

  1. Park the machine on level ground. Lower the bowl. Apply the parking brake. Shut off the engine. Open the engine compartment access door.

  2. Clean the area around the housing for the screen.

  3. Remove the nut and the screen. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.

  4. Clean the screen in nonflammable solvent. Inspect the screen for damage. Replace the screen if the screen is damaged.

  5. Inspect the seal. Replace the seal if the seal is damaged.

  6. Install the screen and the nut.

  7. Start the engine.

  8. Check the area around the screen housing for leaks.

  9. Check the transmission oil level. Add oil if oil is needed.

  10. Shut off the engine.
