Drive Shaft (Front) - Remove and Install
Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Remove the bottom guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bottom Guard (Transmission) - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
- Park the machine on a flat, level surface. Lower the grapple and the decking blade to the ground. Chock the wheels in order to keep the machine from rolling when the drive shaft is removed.
- Remove four bolts (1) and the washers from yoke (2) .

- Remove four bolts (5) and the washers from yoke (4) .

- Use two people to carefully remove drive shaft (3). The weight of the drive shaft is 22 kg (49 lb).
Installation Procedure

When the front drive shaft is installed, it must be installed in phase with the front axle assembly yoke. Serious component damage could occur. Be certain that all the joint groups, all the yokes, and all the lubricating fittings are aligned. |
- Use two people to carefully install drive shaft (3). The weight of the drive shaft is 22 kg (49 lb).

- Install four bolts (5) into yoke (4). The U-joints must be fully seated before torque is applied to the bolts. Use a soft hammer in order to seat each of the bearing caps into the yoke. Tighten these bolts to a torque of 120 ± 20 N·m (90 ± 15 lb ft). Do not use washers or thread lock compound on these bolts.
- Install four bolts (1) into yoke (2). The U-joints must be fully seated before torque is applied to the bolts. Use a soft hammer in order to seat each of the bearing caps into the yoke.
