Drive Shaft (Center) - Remove and Install
Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect" for the machine that is being serviced.
- Park the machine on a flat, level surface. Lower the grapple and the decking blade to the ground. Chock the wheels in order to keep the machine from rolling when the drive shaft is removed.
- Remove five bolts (1) and the washers.

- Remove left guard (2) .
- Remove five bolts (4) and the washers.

- Remove right guard (3) .
- Remove four bolts (5) and the washers from yoke (6) .

- Remove four bolts (7) and the washers from yoke (8) .

- Use two people to carefully remove drive shaft (9). The weight of the drive shaft is 34 kg (75 lb).
Installation Procedure

When the center drive shaft is installed, it must be installed in phase with the rear drive shaft. Serious component damage could occur. Be certain that all the joint groups, all the yokes, and the lubricating fittings are aligned. |
- Use two people to carefully install drive shaft (9). The weight of the drive shaft is 34 kg (75 lb).

- Install four bolts (7) and the washers in yoke (8). The U-joints must be fully seated before torque is applied to the bolts. Use a soft hammer in order to seat each of the bearing caps into the yokes. Install four bolts (8) into yoke (9). Tighten these bolts to a torque of 120 ± 20 N·m (90 ± 15 lb ft). Do not use washers or thread lock compound on these bolts.
- Install the bolts (5) and the washers. Tighten these bolts to a torque of 120 ± 20 N·m (90 ± 15 lb ft).

- Install right guard (3) .

- Install left guard (2) .

End By: Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect" for the machine that is being serviced.
