Installation Procedure for the Flywheel Ring Gear

Always wear protective gloves when handling parts that have been heated.

  1. Heat flywheel ring gear (1) to a temperature of 250 °C (480 °F).

    Note: Do not use a torch to heat the flywheel ring gear.

  1. Install flywheel ring gear (1) on flywheel (2) .

    Note: Ensure that the chamfer of the flywheel ring gear is in the correct position on the flywheel.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Use Tool (A) and a suitable lifting device to put flywheel (1) in position over guide bolts (3) on the end of the crankshaft.

  1. Install bolts (2) in flywheel (1) .

  1. Remove guide bolts (3) from flywheel (1) .

  1. Install the remaining bolts (2) in flywheel (1) .

  1. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  1. Remove Tool (A) and the lifting device from flywheel (1) .

End By: Install the electric starting motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install".
