Input Drive Shaft - Remove and Install

Usage:

994D 3TZ

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
  2. Connect the frame lock link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Frame Lock Link - Separate and Connect".

  1. Remove three bolts (1) that secure input drive shaft (2) to the torque converter. Discard three bolts (1). Do not reuse bolts.

  1. Remove three bolts (3) that secure input drive shaft (2) to the transfer gear case. Discard three bolts (3). Do not reuse bolts.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting sling around input drive shaft (2). Secure the suitable lifting sling to a hoist. Remove bolt (4) and bolt (5) from each end of input drive shaft (2). Discard bolt (4) and bolt (5). Do not reuse bolts.

  1. Use a prybar in order to compress input drive shaft (2) .

  1. Remove input drive shaft (2) from the yokes on the transfer gear case and the torque converter. The weight of input drive shaft (2) is 98 kg (215 lb).

  1. Remove four bolts (6) that secure spider (7) to input drive shaft (2). Discard four bolts (6). Do not reuse bolts. Remove spider (7) from input drive shaft (2). Repeat the procedure for the other end of input drive shaft (2) .

Installation Procedure

Note: Verify that all of the components of the input drive shaft are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation.

  1. Position spider (7) to input drive shaft (2). Install four new bolts (6) that secure spider (7) to input drive shaft (2). Tighten four bolts (6) to a torque of 530 ± 70 N·m (391 ± 52 lb ft). Repeat the procedure for the other end of input drive shaft (2) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting sling around input drive shaft (2). Secure the suitable lifting sling to a hoist. Position input drive shaft (2) between the yokes on the transfer gear case and the torque converter. Align the input drive shaft in order to install two new bolts (4) and (5) to the yokes. Do not reuse bolts.

  1. Install three new bolts (3) that secure input drive shaft (2) to the transfer gear case. Do not reuse bolts. Tighten three bolts (3) and bolt (5) to a torque of 530 ± 70 N·m (391 ± 52 lb ft).

  1. Install three new bolts (1) that secure input drive shaft (2) to the torque converter. Do not reuse bolts. Tighten three bolts (1) and bolt (4) to a torque of 530 ± 70 N·m (391 ± 52 lb ft).

End By:

  1. Separate the frame lock link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Frame Lock Link - Separate and Connect".
  2. Remove the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
