Drive Shaft (Center) - Remove and Install

Usage:

994D 3TZ

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
  2. Connect the frame lock link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Frame Lock Link - Separate and Connect".

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device around center drive shaft (1). Remove bolts (2) that secure center drive shaft (1) to the parking brake. Discard bolts (2). Do not reuse bolts.

  1. Remove bolts (3) that secure center drive shaft (1) to the output transfer gear case. Discard bolts (3). Do not reuse bolts. Use a pry bar in order to retract center drive shaft (1). Remove center drive shaft (1) from the output transfer gear case. The weight of center drive shaft (1) is approximately 120 kg (265 lb).

  1. Remove bolts (4) that secure spider (5) to center drive shaft (1). Discard bolts (4). Do not reuse bolts. Remove spider (5) from center drive shaft (1). Repeat the procedure for the other end of input drive shaft (1) .

Installation Procedure

Note: Verify that all of the components of the center drive shaft are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation.

  1. Position spider (5) to center drive shaft (1). Install new bolts (4) that secure spider (5) to center drive shaft (1). Do not reuse bolts. Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 530 ± 70 N·m (391 ± 52 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 5 for the correct tightening sequence. Repeat the procedure for the other end of center drive shaft (1) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device around center drive shaft (1). Position center drive shaft (1) to the output transfer gear case. The weight of center drive shaft (1) is approximately 120 kg (265 lb). Install new bolts (3) that secure center drive shaft (1) to the output transfer gear case. Do not reuse bolts. Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 530 ± 70 N·m (391 ± 52 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 7 for the correct tightening sequence.

  1. Install new bolts (2) that secure center drive shaft (1) to the center axle. Do not reuse bolts. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 530 ± 70 N·m (391 ± 52 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 9 for the correct tightening sequence.

End By:

  1. Separate the frame lock link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Frame Lock Link - Separate and Connect".
  2. Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
