613C Series II Wheel Tractor-Scraper Caterpillar

Braking Operation

Usage:

613C II 8LJ
The braking system consists of three separate controls.

Service Brake

Illustration 1g00516827

All wheels of the wheel tractor-scraper are equipped with air brakes. The air brakes are actuated by air pressure when service brake pedal (1) is pushed by the operator. The braking force increases as the pedal pressure is increased.

The service brakes on the wheel tractor-scraper are designed to stop the machine.

Parking and Secondary Brake

Illustration 2g00578665

Pull parking brake control (2) outward. This will release the air pressure and the springs will be allowed to apply the parking brakes.

If the brake air pressure falls below 276 ± 34 kPa (40 ± 5 psi), the action alarm will sound and the parking brakes will engage automatically.

The action alarm will also sound if the transmission control is moved out of the NEUTRAL position during engagement of the parking brake.

NOTICE

Do not engage the secondary brake while the machine is moving unless the primary service brake fails.

The use of the secondary brake as a service brake in regular operation will cause severe damage to the brake system.

Pull secondary brake control (3) outward. This will release the air pressure and the springs will be allowed to apply the secondary brakes. Engage the secondary brake if the service brakes fail to stop the machine.

If the brake air pressure falls below 276 ± 34 kPa (40 ± 5 psi), the action alarm will sound and the secondary brakes will engage automatically.
