Usage:

All 3500 Series Engines

A change has been made to the valve clearance settings on 3500 Series Engines.

The intake valve clearance has been changed. Make a note of this change in your Service Manual.

Valve Clearance Setting

The intake valve clearance setting has been changed to 0.38 mm (.015"). The exhaust valve clearance setting is still 0.76 mm (.030")

Whenever adjustment of the valves is necessary, they must be adjusted to the valve clearance setting dimensions shown above. There is no tolerance on these dimensions.

Remember, when the valve clearance is checked, adjustment is not necessary, if the measurement is within the dimensions which follow:

It is the recommendation of Caterpillar that the valve clearance setting is made after 1000 service hours of operation and every 3000 service hours thereafter.
