Reference: Service Magazine articles: April 24, 1978 "Oil Grooves And Harder Gears Are Now Used..."; April 23, 1979, "Inspection Of Oil Pump After Long Periods Of Service..." and supplement in May 12, 1980 issue; and October 20, 1980, "New Basic Oil Pump Groups Use Hardened Gears ..." and supplement in December 1, 1980 issue.
The first article tells about the use of a new pump housing cover and a new inlet manifold assembly that have oil grooves machined in them for better lubrication. It also tells about the use of a harder oil pump drive gear and idler gear on D379 and G379 Engines.
The second article and its supplement tells about the use of improved oil pump assemblies and recommendations for the inspection of oil pumps.
The third article and supplement tells about the use of new oil pump groups and harder gears in D379, D398, G379 and G398 Engines.
The use of the new parts which are shown in these articles will increase the service life of the oil pumps. Also, the recommendations for inspection of these oil pumps and the use of Scheduled Oil Sampling results will help find wear and damage before a failure. This will prevent high cost damage to the engine.
