Command Control Steering - Adjust

Usage:

Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or movement.

Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed.

Connect the steering frame lock link between the front and rear frames before working on machine.

Note: If the steering wheel or the steering shaft is removed, the components must be installed correctly.

  1. Center the machine in the STRAIGHT AHEAD position.

  1. Stop the engine. Engage the parking brake.

    Steering Frame Lock in the Locked position

    (1) Steering frame lock.

  1. Install steering frame lock (1) in order to prevent machine articulation.

    (2) Pilot control valve. (3) Key. (4) Shaft. (5) Flange. (6) Steering Wheel. (7) Steering shaft. (8) Key. (9) Shaft. (10) Yoke. (11) Bolt. (12) Lever. (13) Bolt.

  1. Remove steering shaft assembly (7) .

    Reference: For the correct procedure to remove the steering shaft, refer to the Service Manual module for Disassembly and Assembly, SENR1392, "Steering Shaft - Remove and Install".

    (10) Yoke. (11) Bolt. (14) Keyway. (15) Nut.

    Note: Key (3) and keyway (14) should be in the STRAIGHT AHEAD position.

  1. Align keyway (14) with key (3) .

  1. Install yoke (10) onto shaft (4) .

    Note: Be sure that key (3) is still in place once you install yoke (10) onto shaft (4) .

  1. Install bolt (11) and nut (15) into yoke (10). Tighten nut (15) to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (40 ± 7 lb ft).

  1. Position keyway (8) in the STRAIGHT AHEAD position. Steering wheel (6) must also be in the STRAIGHT AHEAD position.

    Note: If steering wheel (6) is not in the STRAIGHT AHEAD position, steering wheel (6) must be removed and aligned with keyway (8). When the components are correctly aligned, the steering wheel will turn evenly to the right and to the left.

    (8) Keyway. (9) Shaft. (12) Lever. (13) Bolt. (A) 6.0 ± 1.0 mm (.25 ± .05 inch).

  1. Install lever (12) onto shaft (9). Slide lever (12) over key (8) until you obtain dimension (A). Dimension (A) equals 6.0 ± 1.0 mm (.25 ± .04 inch).

  1. Secure lever (12) to shaft (9) with bolt (13). Tighten bolt (13) to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (40 ± 7 lb ft).

    Note: Be sure that steering wheel (6) is in the STRAIGHT AHEAD position before you perform the following steps.

  1. Assemble shaft (9) into pilot hole (16) that is located in flange (5) .

  1. Attach flange (5) to lever (12) with bolts (17), washers (18), and nuts (19) .

    Note: Be sure that there is no space between flange (5) and lever (12) before performing Step 14.

  1. Be sure that flange (5) is flush against lever (12) .

  1. Tighten nuts (19) that are on bolts (17) .
