Usage:
The FT806 Cylinder Head Repair Bench Group has been improved by the addition of new parts, as follows.
-
- 1. A brake has been added to the cradle. The brake will permit the head to be moved and held in any position. The brake is activated when the control handle is moved up, and is released when the control handle is moved down. See Illustration 1. The brake can be installed on existing repair benches. Installation of the brake is shown in the new FT806 print.
- 2. An FT1669 Pneumatic Spring Compressor has been added. See Illustration 2. The spring compressor makes it easier and faster to disassemble and assemble cylinder heads. The spring compressor moves from one end of the bench to the other end. This permits the air cylinder to be moved by the swing arm so it is over any valve. This can be done on cylinder heads for all Caterpillar-built engines. The arm moves approximately 180°.
Quick change adapters are used to put the air cylinder in the correct position over the valve spring, and to hold it there. There are four adapters that make it possible to service all cylinder heads for Caterpillar-built engines. When a spring is compressed, the arm assembly locks against the bench. This adds stability and prevents lateral movement of the arm. The spring compressor can be added to existing repair benches. Instructions to fabricate the spring compressor, and install it on the bench, are shown on FT1669 and FT806 prints.
- 3. A tool balancer, mounted on a small jib crane, is added to the bench. See Illustration 3. This makes it easy to move the power unit for the valve seat grinder into the desired position. It is also used for storage of the power unit. The tool balancer can be adjusted so that the power unit will not move upward unless a small amount of upward pressure is applied to it.
- 4. Quick change holding fixtures can be made for 3208 and 3406 Engine cylinder heads by use of FT1660, FT1661 and FT1662 prints. See Illustration 4. Universal holding fixture plans are shown on the new FT806 print. The universal fixtures can be put in the necessary positions to service any cylinder head for Caterpillar-built engines.

All Caterpillar engine cylinder heads can be repaired on the FT806 Bench. All FT prints are available from your Division Service Manager.
