Water Temperature Regulator - Remove and Install

Usage:

IT38G 1CW

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.

Steam can cause personal injury.

Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.

Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this will help to keep contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Open the engine hood.

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7018 for the proper procedure. The capacity of the cooling system is 49 L (13 US gal).

  1. Loosen clamp (2) and move hose assembly (1) away from the engine.

  1. Remove bolts (4) and the washers. Remove pipe (3) .

  1. Remove the gasket on pipe (3) .

  1. Remove water temperature regulator (5) .

Installation Procedure

Note: If the water temperature regulator is not installed correctly, the engine will not run properly.

  1. Install water temperature regulator (5) .

  1. Install a new gasket on pipe (3) .

  1. Install pipe (3). Install the washers and bolts (4) .

  1. Install hose assembly (1) and tighten clamp (2) .

  1. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7018 for the proper procedure. The capacity of the cooling system is 49 L (13 US gal).

  1. Close the engine hood.

End By: Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
