Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the hood assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, " Hood - Remove and Install". The information is in this manual.

    ------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.

    Steam can cause personal injury.

Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.

Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.

    ----------------------

    ------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil under pressure.

Hydraulic oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine when the pressure is suddenly released.

At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns.

Remove the fill plug only when the engine is stopped, and the fill plug is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

    NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Drain the coolant from the radiator and the engine. The capacity of the cooling system is 65 L (17 US gal).

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the oil and the coolant systems.
