  1. Inspect all O-rings and gaskets for wear or damage. If the O-rings or gaskets are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

  1. Attach a hoist, and Tool (A) to lifting plates (1) . Carefully install engine (2) in the machine. The engine weighs 850 kg (1874 lb) .

  1. Install two washers (3) and two bolts (4) to the engine support.

  1. Install two washers (5) and two bolts (6) to the engine support.

  1. Connect the drive shaft to universal joint flange (7) . Install four bolts (8) and the nuts to universal joint flange (7) .

  1. Connect hose (9) to the air compressor and tighten retaining nut (10) .

  1. Install bolt (11) and clip (12) to the air compressor.

  1. Install bracket (13) and control cable (14) to the engine. Install bolt (15) to bracket (13) . Connect control cable (14) and install nut (16) .

  1. Use a hoist and a suitable lifting device to tilt cab (17) away from the engine. Remove the cribbing from the support assembly. Lower cab (17) onto the mount assemblies when the cribbing has been removed.

  1. Install nut (18) , the lockwasher and the bolt to the mount assembly.

  1. Install shield (20) to the cab. Install two bolts (21) to shield (20) .

  1. Install nut (22) to the clip. Install bolt (23) to the clip.

  1. Install two wire tie-wraps (24) .

  1. Connect electrical connection (25) and install the electrical connection in the clip. Install four wire tie-wraps (26) .

  1. Connect electrical connection (27) and install the electrical connection in the clip. Install three bolts (28) to the clips.

  1. Install three clips (29) and bolt (30) to the frame.

  1. Connect electrical connection (37) and install the electrical connection to the clip. Connect wire harness (38) and tighten retaining ring (39) .

  1. Connect pipe (40) and tighten retaining nut (41) .

  1. Connect steering rod (42) to the steering valve. Install nut (43) and cotter pin (44) .

  1. Connect electrical connection (47) and install the electrical connection to the clip. Install wire tie-wrap (48) .

  1. Connect electrical connection (53) and install the electrical connection to the clip. Install two wire tie-wraps (54) . Connect hose (55) and tighten retaining nut (56) .

  1. Install bolt (57) to the bracket.

  1. Connect electrical connection (58) and install the electrical connection to the clip. Install wire tie-wrap (59) .

  1. Install two cable assemblies (60) and nut (61) to the solenoid assembly. Install two cable assemblies (62) and nut (63) to the electric starting motor.

  1. Install tube assembly (64) and two bolts (65) to the oil pump.

  1. Install the oil pan gasket and oil pan (66) to the engine. Install 36 bolts (67) to oil pan (66) .

  1. Install pipe (68) to the machine and tighten two hose clamps (69) .

  1. Install two half flanges (70) and four bolts (71) to the elevator pump.

  1. Install two half flanges (72) and four bolts (73) to the elevator pump. Install two half flanges (74) and four bolts (75) to the hydraulic and steering pump. Install two half flanges (76) and four bolts (77) to the hydraulic and steering pump.

  1. Connect cable assembly (78) and nut (79) to the engine. Torque nut (79) to 8 ± 1 N·m (69 ± 9 lb in) .

  1. Install two half flanges (80) and four bolts (81) to transmission oil pump (82) .

  1. Connect hose (83) and tighten retaining nut (84) .

  1. Connect hose (87) and tighten retaining nut (88) . Connect hose (89) and tighten retaining nut (90) . Connect hose (91) and tighten retaining nut (92) .

  1. Install pipe (93) to the engine and tighten hose clamp (94) .

  1. Connect air hose (108) to the turbocharger. Tighten two hose clamps (109) .

  1. Connect air hose (108) to the air cleaner. Tighten two hose clamps (110) .

  1. Connect hose (113) to air conditioning compressor (114) and tighten retaining nut (115) . Connect hose (116) to air conditioning compressor (114) and tighten retaining nut (117) .

    Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.

    Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Connect hose (118) and tighten retaining nut (119) .

  1. Connect O-ring port tee (120) and tighten retaining nut (121) . Connect hose (122) and tighten retaining nut (123) .

  1. Install one bolt (124) and one clip (125) to the engine.

  1. Install one clip (126) and one bolt (127) to the engine. Install one clip (128) and one bolt (129) to the engine. Connect hose (130) to the governor assembly and tighten retaining nut (131) .

  1. Use a suitable lifting device, and carefully install bottom plate (132) to the frame. The weight of the bottom plate is 21 kg (46 lb). Install six bolts (133) to bottom plate (132) .

  1. Fill the hydraulic tank with hydraulic oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6447 for information on filling the hydraulic tank.

  1. Fill the engine crankcase with engine oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6447 for information on filling the engine crankcase.

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Personal injury or death can result when charging an air conditioning system with a liquid.

    The compressor will pump the refrigerant back into the charging cylinder with the possibility of rupturing (exploding) the cylinder.

    Do not operate the engine when charging with a liquid.

    Never charge liquid or gas through the discharge (high side of the system) with the engine running.

    Keep all other personnel either away from the machine or where they can be seen when working on the air conditioning system.

  1. Evacuate the air conditioning system and charge the air conditioning system. Refer to Service Manual, SENR5664, "Air Conditioning and Heating Systems With R-134a Refrigerant" for information on the air conditioning system.

End By:

  1. Install the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove and Install". The information is in this manual.
  2. Install the fan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan and Fan Drive - Install". The information is in this manual.
  3. Install the radiator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Radiator - Install". The information is in this manual.
