  1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts for wear or damage. If any parts are worn or damaged, use a new Caterpillar part for replacement. Apply clean oil to all internal parts of the pump.

  1. Install two lip seals (1) with Tool (C) . Install O-ring (2) to body (3) .

  1. Install washer (4) and bearing (5) to body (3) .

  1. Install outer retaining ring (6) in body (3) .

  1. Use Tool (A) under bearing (5) to support the inner race. Use a hydraulic press to install shaft (7) to body (3) . Press shaft (7) into body (3) until the shaft contacts the bearing.

  1. Use Tool (B) to install snap ring (8) to body (3) .

  1. Install two oil retainer seals (9) to outlet plate (10) .

  1. Install flex plate (11) to outlet plate (10) . The bronze face of the flex plate must be facing toward the rotor.

    Note: The vanes must be installed so that the leading edge is facing toward the direction of travel.

  1. Install rotor (12) and vanes (13) to flex plate (11) .

  1. Install ring (14) to flex plate (11) .

  1. Install flex plate (15) to ring (14) . The bronze face of the flex plate must be facing toward the rotor.

  1. Use Tool (C) and a hydraulic press to install bearing (16) to inlet plate (17) .

  1. Install two oil retainer seals (18) to inlet plate (17) .

    Note: Use the alignment marks across the cartridge for installation purposes. Note the direction of the arrows at (X) and (Y) . The arrows indicate the direction of rotation for the pump.

  1. Install inlet plate (17) to cartridge (19) . Install two bolts (20) to inlet plate (17) .

  1. Install O-ring (21) , backup ring (22) and ring (23) to cartridge (19) .

  1. Install cartridge (19) and O-ring (24) to body (3) .

  1. Install cover (25) to body (3) . Install four bolts (26) to cover (25) . Torque the bolts to 95 ± 14 N·m (70 ± 10 lb ft) .

  1. Install two oil retainer seals (27) to outlet plate (28) .

  1. Install flex plate (29) to outlet plate (28) . The bronze face of the flex plate must be facing toward the rotor.

  1. Install rotor (30) and vanes (31) to flex plate (29) .

  1. Install ring (32) to flex plate (29) .

  1. Install flex plate (33) to ring (32) . The bronze face of the flex plate must be facing toward the rotor.

  1. Install two oil retainer seals (34) to inlet plate (35) .

  1. Install inlet plate (35) to cartridge (36) . Install two bolts (37) to inlet plate (35) .

  1. Install O-ring (38) , backup ring (39) and ring (40) to cartridge (36) .

  1. Install cartridge (36) to cover (41) . Install O-ring (42) to cover (41) .

  1. Install cover (41) to pump body (25) . Install four bolts (43) to cover (41) . Torque the bolts to 61 ± 7 N·m (45 ± 5 lb ft) .

End By: Install the vane pump (hydraulic and steering). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vane Pump (Hydraulic and Steering) - Install". The information is in this manual.
