Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Cap all lines, all hoses, and all tubes and plug all lines, all hoses, and all tubes. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this will help to keep contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Move the machine to a smooth, level surface.

  1. Engage the parking brake.

  1. Lower the bucket to the ground.

  1. Drain the fuel tanks in a suitable container for storage or for disposal. The capacity of the fuel tanks is 1319 L (348.4 US gal).

  1. Remove two covers (1) for the platform from rear bumper assembly (2) .

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (3) and (4) from the rear of left fuel tank (5) .

  1. Remove bolts (6), the spacers and the washers that secure the left fuel tank to the rear bumper assembly. Repeat this step for the opposite side of the left fuel tank.

  1. Install Tooling (A) to the top of left fuel tank (5). Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A). Use the hoist to remove the left fuel tank from the rear bumper assembly. The weight of the left fuel tank is 125 kg (275 lb).
