Description of Change: The No. 1 main bearing journal on all new, replacement crankshafts for D343 Industrial and Marine Engines and 1693 Truck Engines now has a step at the front of the journal. See the illustration.
The area for the No. 1 main journal has been increased so that all of the main bearing journals on the crankshaft can be machined with the same grind stone. As a result, a small area adjacent to the taper for the pulley is not ground. This step will not cause stresses in the crankshaft, and the bearing will not make contact with the step.
Adaptable As: The new crankshaft is a direct replacement for the former crankshaft. The part number did not change.
Location of step on No. 1 main bearing journal.
