SUBJECT: PROPER ASSEMBLY OF THE FAN DRIVE PUMP INCREASES
PERFORMANCE AND LENGTHENS SERVICE LIFE
PROBLEM:
The gear pump that drives the hydraulic oil cooler/radiator cooling fan can fail. The gear that is mounted on the end of the input shaft of this pump can be assembled incorrectly. If this gear is assembled incorrectly the thrust to the end of the pump shaft will provide an internal leak path in the pump and accelerated wear of the components.
SOLUTION:
If your machine exhibits symptoms of pump failure, the pump should be removed from the engine, examined for unusual wear and
re-assembled in a correct manner.
If the cooling system fan exhibits symptoms of pump failure, the pump should be removed from the engine, examined for unusual wear and re-assembled in a correct manner.
Procedure for Rebuilding the Fan Drive Pump
This procedure will describe how to properly assemble the 194-8384 Pump Assembly.

- Procure the parts that are listed in the table.
- Remove the failed 201-3786 Pump Group from the engine.
- Remove the cover as. (1) from the front housing. This will expose a nut. Set this assembly aside.
- Assembly the 3D-0053 Bearing onto the 196-8245 Gear.
- Assemble the 6V-8002 O-Ring Seal to the 196-8244 Flange.
- Assembly the flange assembly onto the 194-8384 Pump Assembly.
- Assemble the gear and bearing assembly to the flange and pump assembly. Use the 8T-4223 Washer and the 2K-0564 Nut in order to hold the gear onto the pump shaft. Tighten the nut lightly until it secures the gear. Do Not torque the nut.
- Install the 135-9819 Seal and assemble the entire pump assembly to the front cover.
- Through the port that was uncovered by the removal of the 7C-1445 Plate in step 1. Use this opening to torque the 2K-0564 Nut to 100?20 N?m. Do Not over torque this nut.
- Assembly the cover as. (1) to the front housing.
