Description of Change: A new crankshaft seal group that has both the rear seal and the wear sleeve is used in 3204 and 3208 Engines.
The advantage of the new group is that the lip-type rear seal and the wear sleeve are already assembled, and they have the correct lubricant on them. Since the parts are already assembled, the lip on the seal is not easily damaged.
Formerly, a separate rear seal and wear sleeve were used. It was possible for the lip on the seal to be damaged during assembly. As a result, oil leakage was possible.
The new 1W36 Crankshaft Seal Group is a direct replacement for the former 9L7600 and 9L7736 Seals and the 9L8336 Sleeve in these applications.
The new seal group is in effect on 3208 Engines with Serial Numbers 32Y80352, 90N55990, 75V7741, 79V9133, 1Z1399, 2Z1973 and 3Z1636. It is in effect on 3204 Engines with Serial Numbers 10X2446 and 45V31630.
The Disassembly and Assembly section in the Service Manuals for these products currently give instructions for removal and installation of the former seals and wear sleeve. Since the new group already has the correct lubricant on the seal, the serviceman does not need to remove the seal from wear sleeve and put lubricant on the seal. Make a note of this in the installation procedure given in the Disassembly and Assembly sections for these products. The procedure will be changed as revisions of the modules are completed.
