Water Temperature Regulator - Remove and Install

- Drain the coolant from the engine into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
- Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the regulator cover assembly.

Illustration 1 g01057608 - Remove bolts (1). Remove bypass elbow (7). Remove the O-ring seal from the bypass elbow. Remove gasket (2) from regulator cover (8).
- Disconnect the harness assembly from coolant temperature sensor (4).
- Remove bolts (9). Remove regulator cover (8).
- Remove bolts (5). Remove water connector (6) from the cylinder head. Remove gasket (3) from the cylinder head.

Illustration 2 g01065529 - Remove regulator cover gasket (11) from regulator cover (8).
- Remove ferrule (10) from regulator cover (8).
- Remove water temperature regulator (13) from regulator cover (8).
- Remove lip seal (12) from the regulator cover.
- If necessary, remove coolant temperature sensor (4) from the regulator cover. Remove the O-ring seal from the coolant temperature sensor.

- Use Tooling (A) to install lip seal (12) in regulator cover (8). Ensure that the lip seal is fully seated in the counterbore of the regulator cover.
- Install ferrule (10) in regulator cover (8).
- Install water temperature regulator (13) in the regulator cover.
- Position gasket (11) on the regulator cover.

Illustration 4 g01057608 - Position gasket (3) and water connector (6) on the cylinder head. Install bolts (5).
- Position regulator cover (8) and the gasket on water connector (6). Install bolts (9).
- Install the O-ring seal on bypass elbow (7). Apply Tooling (B) to the O-ring seal on the bypass elbow.
- Position bypass elbow (7) and gasket (2) on the regulator cover. Install bolts (1).
- Install a new O-ring seal on the coolant temperature sensor. Install coolant temperature sensor (4) and tighten to a torque of
20 ± 3 N·m (15 ± 2 lb ft) . - Connect the harness assembly to the coolant temperature sensor.
- Connect the upper radiator hose to the water manifold.
- Fill the cooling system to the correct coolant level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" in the Maintenance Section for more information.
