Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

C15 BXS

Removal Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from failure to disconnect the battery.

First, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then, disconnect the positive battery cable.

A positive power lead can cause sparks if the battery is not disconnected. Sparks can possibly result in battery explosion or fire.

  1. Disconnect the batteries.

  2. Release the spring tension on the belt tensioner and remove the belt from the pulley on the alternator.

  3. Put an index mark on all of the harness assemblies that are connected to the alternator.

  1. If necessary, install pulley (7) on the alternator. Install nut (8). Tighten the nut to a torque of 102 ± 7 N·m (75 ± 5 lb ft).

  2. Position alternator (2) on the alternator support. Install bolts (1). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 65.5 ± 7.5 N·m (48 ± 6 lb ft).

  3. Connect harness assembly (4) to the alternator.

  4. Connect harness assembly to the alternator terminal and install nut (3). Tighten the nut to a torque of 6.2 ± 0.6 N·m (55 ± 5 lb in).

  5. Connect harness assembly to the alternator terminal and install nut (5). Tighten the nut to a torque of 2.25 ± 0.25 N·m (20 ± 2 lb in).

  6. Connect harness assembly to the alternator terminal and install nut (6). Tighten the nut to a torque of 6.2 ± 0.6 N·m (55 ± 5 lb in).

  7. Release the spring tension on the belt tensioner and install the belt on the pulley of the alternator.
