Restriction of Air Inlet and Exhaust
There will be a reduction in engine performance if there is a restriction in the air inlet system or in the exhaust system.
The maximum allowable inlet air restriction under snorkel operation is 6.75 kPa (27.14 inch of H2O).
The maximum allowable inlet air restriction during surface operation is 3.38 kPa (13.59 inch of H2O).
Back pressure is the difference in the pressure between the exhaust at the outlet elbow and the atmospheric air.
Maximum back pressure under snorkel operation is 41.37 kPa (166.24 inch of H2O).
Maximum back pressure during surface operation is 20.66 kPa (83.04 inch of H2O).
