This generator set uses Advanced Diesel Engine Management (ADEM II) for the control and monitoring of the system. The ADEM II consists of the following components: one primary Engine Control Module (ECM), one secondary ECM, a Versatile Control Module (VCM), an Integrated Temperature Sensing Module (ITSM), control software, various sensors, various actuators and a Engine Vision Interface Module (EVIM). The EVIM has the following functions: control for the engine, monitor for the engine, interface with the engine, interface with the generator and communications with the Diesel Generator Control Panel (DGCP). An illustration of the system is shown in Illustration 1.
The ECM is used to control the 3512B engine. The ECM communicates with the Local Control Panel by a CAT Data Link. The ITSM is used to monitor the combined exhaust temperatures from the engine cylinder and from the turbocharger. The Versatile Control Module is used to monitor the various parameters for the generator. The interface between the ADEM II and the DGCP is handled by the EVIM with RS-232 serial communications. The EVIM is mounted on top of the Local Control Panel. The Local Control Panel is located on the starboard side of the engine.
