Usage:
1. Remove bolts (4) and make a separation of the universal joint from shaft (1) and flange (2).
2. Follow Step 1 to remove all universal joints.
NOTE: Do not cut straps (3). If the straps are cut or lost, use a wire to hold the bearing caps to the spider. Do not weld the straps to the bearing caps, the heat from the weld will damage the bearings.
Install Universal Joints
1. Put the universal joint in position and tighten the bolts that hold it to a torque of 48 ± 8 lb.ft. (64 ± 11 N·m) with hardened washers.
Disassemble And Assemble Universal Joints
1. Use a hammer and chisel to remove strap (4) from the two bearing caps (2).
NOTE: Do not cut straps (4). If the straps are cut or lost, use a wire to hold the bearing caps to the spider. Do not weld the straps to the bearing caps, the heat from the weld will damage the bearings.
2. Remove bearing caps (2), the bearings and seals (3) from spider (1).
3. Inspect the spider journal bearing surfaces for roughness or needle bearing grooves.
4. Inspect each bearing for wear and for broken or lost needle bearings.
5. Make a replacement of the spider and bearing assembly if either the spider or the bearings have too much wear.
