3034 Engine for Caterpillar Built Machines Caterpillar

Increased Engine Oil Temperature - Inspect

Usage:

3034 3NW
When the engine is at operating temperature and the engine is using SAE 15W40 oil, the maximum oil temperature should be 120 °C (248 °F). This is the temperature of the oil in the oil pan.

If the engine oil temperature is high, inspect the following possible causes:

  • Restriction in the air inlet system

  • Fault in the fuel injector nozzle

  • Fault in the cold starting system

  • Restriction in the exhaust system

  • Damaged fan (if equipped)

  • Too much oil in the oil pan

  • Restriction in the coolant system

  • Not enough coolant in the coolant system

  • Loose drive belt

  • Restriction in the engine oil cooler (turbocharged engines)
