0173-00 High Exhaust Gas Temperature Derate
Conditions Which Generate This Code:
This code indicates that the engine has been derated in order to prevent excessive exhaust temperatures. The engine will only be derated to a level that will allow the exhaust temperature to be lowered to an acceptable level. This code will be logged once the engine has been derated by more than 4%.
System Response:
Electronic System Response The ECM will log the event.
Service Tool Display or Lamps The check engine light will not be turned on for this event code.
Engine Response The engine has been derated.
Test Step 1. Talk to the Operator
Note: No repair to the engine is necessary.
- Determine the conditions which caused the diagnostic code.
Expected Result:
The engine was run under heavy loads and/or climbing steep hills.
