Connecting Rod Bearings - Install

- Install a new lower half connecting rod bearing (5) in connecting rod bearing cap (3) .
Note: Apply clean engine oil on the connecting rod bearings for final assembly.
- Install a new upper half connecting rod bearing (6) in the connecting rod (1) .
- Pull the connecting rod (1) onto the crankshaft.
- Check the bearing clearance. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bearing Clearance - Check".
- Install connecting rod bearing cap (3) and the bolts. Ensure that the number on the side of the connecting rod bearing cap (3) is on the same side as the number on the connecting rod (1) .
- Tighten the connecting rod bolts. Tighten bolt (2) and bolt (4) to a torque of 70 ± 5 N·m (52 ± 4 lb ft).
- Place an index mark on each connecting rod cap bolt. Tighten each bolt (2) and (4) for an additional 120 ± 5 degrees (1/3 of a turn).
- Repeat Steps 1 through 7 in order to install the remainder of the connecting rod bearings.
End By: Install the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Install".
