System Setup Procedure
When an engine is first installed, the following steps must be completed for the initial setup of the air/fuel ratio control.
- Before starting the engine, calibrate the oxygen sensor in ambient air. Refer to Systems Operation, "Oxygen Sensor Calibration (Automatic)".
- Perform the following procedures according to the Systems Operation, "Oxygen Sensor Calibration (Manual)":
- Open the power valve in order to eliminate any restriction in fuel flow during "Automatic Operation" of the air/fuel ratio control. Turn the valve counterclockwise by three to four turns.
- Operate the engine with the air/fuel ratio control in the manual mode in order to obtain an emissions level of 1 G/BHP NOx. Operate the engine at rated load or the maximum load for normal operation. Do not exceed the rated load.
- After tuning the engine, calibrate the oxygen sensor again at the rated load.
- Position the control valve to the START position.
- Switch the air/fuel ratio control to the automatic mode in order to activate the control.
- Operate the engine at various load and speed combinations in order to ensure that the air/fuel ratio control maintains the proper NOx emission levels. If necessary, adjust the offsets for the oxygen value of the various inlet manifold pressures which represent the partial load points on the engine.
