Generator Multifunction Relay (GMR)

The GMR (2) is a drawout relay. The relay can be removed by loosening the thumbscrews and then pulling out the relay. The relay has adjustable pickup and adjustable time delay settings. The relay settings are programmable in the field. The display for the generator multifunction relay (1) contains a menu for different settings. The relay can be programmed by the touch pad that is located on the relay. The GMR is connected to the PLC with a cable for serial communications.

Both the alarm and the shutdown are displayed. These operations are indicated by a flashing lamp and a sounding of the alarm horn. The reset for the alarm and the reset for shutdown are controlled by the engine control switch (ECS).

The protective relaying functions of the GMR that are set at the factory for cooldown on trip include the following functions:

  • Reverse Power (ANSI device 32)

  • Loss of Excitation (ANSI device 40Q)

  • Undervoltage (ANSI device 27)

  • Under Frequency (ANSI device 81U)

  • Negative Sequence Overcurrent (ANSI device 46)

  • Overcurrent (ANSI device 50/51) (medium voltage switchgear)

These functions are also programmable from the touchscreen display in order to be configured as a shutdown.

The following protective relaying functions of the GMR are set at the factory for shut down on trip:

  • Overvoltage (ANSI device 59)

  • Overfrequency (ANSI device 81 O)

These functions are not programmable from the touchscreen display.

The following information is obtained from the GMR: three-phase AC volts, current, frequency, watts and power factor. This information is displayed as generator bus data on the touchscreen display.

For detailed instructions on troubleshooting the GMR relay, see the publication: "Instruction Manual For Generator Multifunction Relay BE1-GMR"

Utility Multifunction Relay (UMR)

The UMR is a drawout relay. The relay can be removed by loosening the thumbscrews and then pulling out the relay. The relay has adjustable pickup and adjustable time delay settings. The relay is programmable in the field. The display for the utility multifunction relay (4) contains a menu for different settings. The relay can be programmed by the touch pad that is located on the relay. The UMR is connected to the PLC with a cable for serial communications.

Both the alarm and the shutdown are displayed. These operations are indicated by a flashing lamp and a sounding of the alarm horn. The reset for the alarm and the reset for shutdown are controlled by the engine control switch (ECS).

The following UMR protective relaying functions are set at the factory for cool down on trip.

  • Under Frequency (ANSI device 81/U)

  • Over Frequency (ANSI device 81/O)

  • Under Voltage (ANSI device 27)

  • Over Voltage (ANSI device 59)

  • Negative Sequence Overvoltage (ANSI device 47)

These functions are also programmable from the touchscreen display in order to be configured as a shutdown.

The protective relay Neutral Ground Overcurrent (ANSI device 51G) is factory set for shut down on trip. This function is not programmable from the touchscreen display.

The following information is obtained from the UMR: three-phase AC volts, current, frequency, watts, VARs and power factor. This information is displayed as utility bus data on the touchscreen display.

For detailed instructions on troubleshooting the UMR relay, see the publication: "Instruction Manual For UMR BE1-951 Utility Multifunction Relay" This publication is provided with the documentation and wiring drawings.

NOTICE

The GMR is always placed in the left side of the cabinet. The UMR is always placed on the right side of the cabinet. Do not interchange the GMR and the UMR. The programs are different for the two relays.
