520 Control Module (Generator Set)

(1) Indicator for engine overcrank

(2) Stop/Reset position

(3) Automatic start position

(4) Manual start position

(5) Engine control switch

Note: The following sequence is only applicable to the controllers that are not using the external start/stop push button control.

To initiate the engine start sequence in MANUAL, turn engine control switch (5) to the MANUAL (4) position.

Note: No start delay occurs in the MANUAL mode of operation.

  1. If the preheat timer is configured, then the preheat timer will be initiated. The corresponding programmable output that is selected will energize.

  1. After the above delays, the fuel solenoid is energized. Then, the starting motor is engaged.

  1. The engine is cranked for 10 seconds. The starting motor will be disengaged if the engine does not start. The starting motor will cool for 10 seconds. If the sequence continues beyond 3 attempts, the sequence will be terminated. The indicator for engine overcrank (1) flashes.

  1. When the engine starts, the starting motor is disengaged. The starting motor is disconnected when the output from the alternator reaches 21 Hz. An engine speed sensor is mounted on the flywheel housing. The engine speed sensor is used in order to detect the engine speed. Use the P808 interface in order to choose the engine speed sensor for the detection of speed. Refer to the "P808 For Windows" software manual. The "R" terminal of the alternator can be used to disconnect the starting motor.

Note: The "R" terminal of the alternator is not used for overspeed or underspeed.

  1. The safety timer activates after the engine has started. This allows the following fault inputs to stabilize without triggering the fault:

    • Oil Pressure

    • Coolant Temperature

    • Underspeed

    • Charge Fail

    • Programmable Inputs

  1. If the warm up timer is configured, the warm up timer is initiated. This allows the engine to stabilize before accepting the load.

  1. The generator will run off load, unless a remote start signal is applied. If load transfer has been selected as a control source, then the selected programmable output will activate.

  1. After the remote start signal is removed, the engine will continue to run on load until the engine control switch (5) is turned to AUTO (3). The remote stop delay timer expires after 30 seconds, and the load is disconnected. Then, the engine will run off load. The engine is given a cooling down period of 30 seconds.

  1. Turn the engine control switch (5) to STOP (2) in order to de-energize the fuel solenoid. This brings the engine to a stop.
