Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Remove the flywheel housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel Housing - Remove and Install".

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
There are three types of drive couplings for the marine transmission.
- Bonded rubber type
- Nylon spring type
- Steel coil spring type
- If an adapter plate is installed, remove adapter plate (3) .

- Remove the bolts that secure drive coupling (2) to coupling adapter (1). Remove the drive coupling. If coupling adapter (1) is installed, remove the coupling adapter.
Installation Procedure

- Clean the flange face of the flywheel. If an adapter plate (3) is used, clean the adapter plate. Clean the drive coupling.

- Install drive coupling (2) onto the flywheel. If coupling adapter (1) is used, install the drive coupling onto the coupling adapter.
- If adapter plate (3) is used, install the adapter plate.
End By: Install the flywheel housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel Housing - Remove and Install".
