Work Tool Troubleshooting

Usage:

SR118 SNB

Operational Checks

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from improper troubleshooting and repair procedures.

The following troubleshooting and repair procedures should only be performed by qualified personnel familiar with this equipment.

----------------------

Verify that the hydraulic system of the host machine is functioning properly. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting procedures of the host machine.

Operate the work tool in each direction and at different engine speeds. Note the noises that are not normal and find the sources of the noises. If the work tool is not operating properly, refer to the following troubleshooting problem list.

Adjustment of Relief Valve "RV2"

Adjust the relief valve in order to achieve optimum performance. The normal relief setting is 14480 kPa (2100 psi). Reducing the setting by turning the relief valve counterclockwise will increase the torque of the impeller. This will cause an increase in snow discharge power. The torque of the auger will be reduced. Conversely, if the relief setting is increased by turning the relief valve clockwise, the torque of the auger will increase. The torque for the impeller will decrease.

Troubleshooting Problem List

Table 1
Problem     Probable Cause

The motor operates but the driven component does not rotate.     The shaft of the motor has a sheared key.

The drive chain is missing or damaged.

One of the motors will not operate.     The hydraulic hoses are not properly connected to the host machine.

The hydraulic hoses on the host machine are obstructed.

The hydraulic hoses on the snowblower are obstructed.

The motor has failed.

The control valve on the snowblower that supplies oil to the motor is malfunctioning.

The valve on the host machine that supplies oil to the snowblower is faulty.

The auxiliary hydraulic control on the host machine is activated in the wrong position.

There is an obstruction in the auger. (1)

Sluggish operation of one of the motors     There is insufficient hydraulic oil flow from the host machine.

One or more seals have failed in the motor.

The hydraulic oil filter on the host machine is dirty.

The relief valve on the host machine is damaged or the relief valve on the host machine is not adjusted properly.

Oil leaks from one of the motors.     One or more seals have failed in the motor.

Seals on the fittings are damaged.

Fittings are loose or damaged.

The hydraulic hoses are loose or damaged.

Excessive hydraulic oil temperature     Low hydraulic oil level on the host machine

The hydraulic hoses are obstructed.

The hydraulic oil is dirty.

The relief valve on the host machine is not adjusted properly.

Two functions operate when you attempt to adjust the snowblower.     The wiring harness is connected incorrectly to the solenoids.

The wiring harness for the work tool functions is suspect on the host machine.

Functions for adjustment operate in one direction only.     The wiring harness is connected incorrectly to the solenoids of the snowblower's control valve.

The wiring harness for the work tool functions is suspect on the host machine.
( 1 ) Do not attempt to remove any obstructions without properly relieving all hydraulic pressure from the snowblower. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Removal Of Obstructions From Snowblower".
