Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Install inner pin (8) and outer pin (10) into the front timing cover.

  1. Install pins through fuel control lever (9) and governor control lever (6). Install spring clips (11) that secure the pins.

  1. Install bolt (13) into the front timing cover. Tighten the bolt to the following torque: 13 N·m (9 lb ft)

  1. Install spring (4) onto lever (5) .

  1. Install lever (5) onto shaft (8) and tighten to the following torque: 10.5 N·m (8 lb ft)

  1. Check the linkage assembly for free movement.

    Note: If any of the linkage has been replaced, the setting for maximum fuel must be adjusted. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Fuel Setting - Adjust".

  1. Install governor weight assembly (2) to fuel injection pump gear (3) .

  1. Install four bolts (1) and tighten to the following torque: 7 N·m (62 lb in)

End By:

  1. Install the front timing cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Housing (Front) - Install".
  2. Install the governor control linkage. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Injection Pump - Install".
