Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the governor control linkage. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Injection Pump - Remove".
  2. Remove the front timing cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Housing (Front) - Remove".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove four bolts (1) that attach governor weight assembly (2) to fuel injection pump gear (3) .

  1. Remove the nut, spring washer, and flat washer (7) from shaft (8) .

  1. Remove spring (4) from lever (5) .

  1. Remove lever (5) from shaft (8) .

  1. Remove bolt (13) from the side of the front timing cover.

  1. Remove two spring clips (11) that hold inner pin (10) and outer pin (12) in position.

  1. Remove governor control lever (6) and fuel control lever (9) from the front timing cover.
